DIVISION ONE NORTH Aveley 4 Hillingdon Borough 1

Second from top Aveley against second from bottom Hillingdon Borough produced the expected result but not necessarily the predicted balance of play.

In the end the Millers cruised to a 4-1 victory after netting twice in the opening 12 minutes and leading 3-0 early in the second period, yet in some respects Boro more than matched their hosts.

Unfortunately of the numerous chances they created they found the net just once and that was in the closing stages when it was too late to change the outcome.

Aveley started much the stronger and took the lead when Joao Carlos crashed a shot through a crowd of players and they were well on top when they broke out from a Boro corner and Matt Johnson steered home a second.

Other chances were also missed by the home side before Hillingdon began to impose themselves.

Jerry Lyons had two good chances, the first he put wide and the other was high and wide, while Gerald Kelly broke free and with just the keeper to beat he took too much time and had the ball taken off his toe.

He then struck a dipping shot which James Marrable tipped over the bar.

Two minutes into the second half Chris Thomas converted from close range to leave Boro with a mountain to climb but central midifelder, Sam Warrell, in particular, showed great determination in trying to complete the task.

However, for all his hard work Hillingdon's attacks broke down as soon as the target came into sight with the one exception being when Steven Midega got on the end of a Lyons cross and finished with ease. Sadly any hope of an unlikely comeback disappeared almost immediately as Thomas rounded Ben Harris and slipped the ball into an empty net to wrap up the win.
