DIVISION ONE NORTH Northwood 2 Thamesmead Town 0
Lowly Thamesmead Town were eased aside as Northwood climbed back into the play-off picture on the back of their 10th unbeaten league game.
Anthony Page struck early and Portuguese striker Hugo Figueiredo added a late second as the Woods' international line-up, which included Gambian international Pa 'Daddy' Gai for the first time, moved up to fifth spot.
In-form Northwood have now banked an impressive 24 points from the last 30.
Thamesmead were quickly into their stride at a chilly Chestnut Avenue where Curtis Williams and Rikki Cable called Mitch Swain into action, yet it was the hosts who opened the scoring on seven minutes when Anthony Page ghosted in at the far post to apply a smart finish after latching on to Gai's flick-on from Figueiredo's corner.
The goal settled the Woods who maintained the pressure with a series of attacks with Rob Ursell and Gai going close with shots from outside the box before Figueiredo spurned a glorious chance when he lifted the ball over with the goal at his mercy, at the end of a sweeping move involving Michael Peacock and Michael Gordon.
Northwood continued to keep the visitors pinned in their own half, Gai having a shot on the turn deflected for a corner and Page was inches from his second goal as he attempted to reach Ursell's low cross, while Thamesmead were indebted to keeper Tony Kessell who produced smart saves to deny Gordon and Ursell.
Woods' profligacy in front of goal continued after the interval as Gai wasted a couple of opportunities to grab a debut goal and the lead remained somewhat precarious as Mark Burgess and Figueiredo miscued and Gai was denied by a last ditch tackle.
Having survived the pressure, Thames-mead began to make an impression on the home defence as substitute Peter Smith shot narrowly wide and they wasted a couple of gilt-edged chances to draw level as substitute Lew Woods and Smith both missed the target when well placed.
Woods finally breathed a sigh of relief after making the game safe in the third minute of stoppage time, Figueiredo curling the ball beyond Kessell after being set up by Gordon. NORTHWOOD: Swain, Power, Meakin (Hol-land), Burgess, Peacock, Hewitt. Gordon, Page (Christian), Gai (Brown), Ursell, Figueiredo. Subs not used: Pearce.

* Dave Anderson last week released Northwood's longest-serving player, midfielder Dwane Williams, because he could not offer him a regular place in the side. The former Harefield United man made 103 appearances for the club and scored six goals after joining from Hayes and was named Players' Player of the Year in 2007.
