Eight wins from eight games.

That's what Northwood player-manager Mark Burgess must achieve if they are to stand any chance of grabbing a spot in the play-offs.

Burgess watched his team go down 1-0 to fellow promotion hopefuls Beaconsfield SYCOB on Saturday as Jon-Jo Bates netted a late winner for the Rams.

The Woods chief admits the outlook is not great, but is refusing to throw in the towel until it is mathematically impossible.

“We have an Outside chance,” he said. “It would be nice to say we are in and around it but we have eight games, we need to win eight. I’d say it’s possible but that’s what it is’

“I thought we were the better team [against Beaconsfield] we had the chances, no doubt we had plenty of chances. But when you don’t take it, the other team is going to get one chance and unfortunately they took it and it killed us.

“We still have to play Rugby and Barton and if you get something from them then you’ve got a chance but if not then we’d be out of it unfortunately. But we won’t give up though.”

Northwood are due to take on Ashford Town tonight.
