Northwood moved into the Ryman League Division One North play-off positions with a 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Ware at Chestnut Avenue on Saturday.

This was Woods' sixth win in their last seven matches and they now sit fifth in the table and go into the new year as serious promotion challengers under new boss Dave Anderson.

Striker Staforde Palmer, on loan from Hayes and Yeading United, fired Woods ahead after 16 minutes and after Darryl Wilson have equalsed for Ware a 42nd minute strike from Kyle Matthews settled the match and gave Woods three more points.

Hayes and Yeading United saw their Blue Square Conference South clash with Worcester City postponed after Church Road failed a late pitch inspection due to a frozen pitch.
