Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Brentford

The story of Brentford's season when they have not won is failure to take their chances and this came to the fore as they slipped to defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bees had most of the territory and possession but failed to carve out chances and when they did they failed to capitalise on them.

The Owls, though, did capitalise on their few chances and Kieran Lee slotted home with just over 15 minutes remaining.

Alan Judge was the main culprit when put through on goal, opting for power over placement on both occasions with goalkeeper Kieran Westwood saving the first one with his second skied over the bar.

On a heavy pitch, the home side pegged Brentford back early on but the Bees started to get a foothold in proceedings.

Andre Gray was played through after excellent work from Jota but his effort went behind for a goal kick, even though it appeared Westwood had the final touch.

The second half saw Brentford camped in the Wednesday half but, for all the good interplay, they were unable to carve out a chance.

The Owls became more confident that they could repel the Bees and started to press forward with Harlee Dean losing the ball in midfield but was bailed out by James Tarkowski.

But, when Jon Toral lost an aerial duel from a Button clearance, Wednesday broke forward and Lee was on hand to fire home.

Judge should have equalised soon after but, inexplicably, blazed over before Sergiu Bus did the same as Ipswich and Derby moved clear in the battle for sixth.
