Chelsea kicked off the defence of the Capital One Cup crown with a comfortable victory over League One Walsall.

The Premier League champions showed their class in front of goal to ensure there wasn’t much of a sniff of an upset at the Bescot Stadium.

Ramires opened the scoring with a back-post header and when Loic Remy rifled home a superb second it looked as though Chelsea would rack up a big scoreline.

However, James O’Connor grabbed a lifeline for the hosts on the stroke of half-time as the Saddlers went in with hope of a comeback at the interval.

Kenedy slammed the door shut with his first goal in Blues colours shortly after the restart and Pedro added an excellent late fourth to put the gloss on the result.

Chelsea's reward for beating Walsall is a trip to Stoke City in round four next month.
