Sutton United 0-1 Hayes & Yeading
Hayes & Yeading’s season so far has been one to forget quickly but a positive came their way on Saturday as they saw off Sutton United in a 1-0 win at The Borough Sports Ground.
Caretaker Manager Tristan Lewis guided his side to their first win since the start of the New Year in the Conference South.
Adam Everitt scored the only goal of the game in the early stages of the second half, while the hosts went down to ten-men in the later stages after Shaun Cooper received a second yellow card of the game.
The encounter started slowly with both teams trying to take control of what was seen as a sloppy beginning. Cooper hitting a first time shot which whistled over the bar before Kevin Amankwaah couldn’t direct his shot on target at the far post.
Words of wisdom were then sent through by Lewis, as Hayes & Yeading came out in the second period to take the lead from a corner; Christian Smith whipping in the cross into the near post for the midfielder to volley his effort past Aaron Howe.
Minutes later Paul Doswell’s men were on then end of an excellent chance to bring them back into the match.
Dan Fitchett getting the better of Dean Inman from a long ball before finding himself one-on-one with Grant Smith and steering his chance wide of the post, leaving the home supporters stunned.
With minutes to spare Hayes & Yeading were looking to break on the counter, while the U’s were getting more frustrated at not being able to break down the visitors.
Scuffles broke out before Cooper saw his second yellow of the game produced and was shown his marching orders for taking down Dylan Kearney.
This was a massive win for Hayes & Yeading which could be a step in the right direction with Farnborough at home next Saturday, while Sutton have only won one game in their last six matches.
