QPR returned to winning ways as they overcame play-off chasing Derby at Loftus Road.

Rangers, when they were keen to press forward, looked dangerous every time they had the ball and took the lead thanks to Tjaronn Chery's volley midway through the first half.

The Rams tried to come back into the game but lacked the necessary quality to unlock the QPR defence.

Rangers made the game safe in the dying minutes thanks to Gabriele Angella's fine header at the back post and moved comfortably into the top half.

Neither side managed to create a clear opportunity with long range efforts from Tom Ince and Junior Hoilett the only attempts at goal.

Sebastian Polter and Chery started combining going forward and the Rams were soon pegged back.

And it was the Dutchman who managed to open the scoring with a fine volley from James Perch's cross.

QPR looked to sit back on their lead in the second half and allowed Derby to come back into the contest in the second half.

But, led superbly by Clint Hill, Rangers resisted everything the visitors threw at them and had chances on the counter attack.

And Rangers wrapped up the victory as Matt Phillips' free kick was turned in at the back post by Angella to secure the victory.
