Scott Hogan scored his first goal for Brentford, and 778 days since his last in professional football, as Brentford scored a last minute equaliser against Bristol City.

The striker suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury on August 30 2014, before suffering a second rupture in 2015.

Hogan, who returned to first team action last month, missed a penalty but made up for it in stoppage time as Josh Clarke's cross was turned back across goal by Jake Bidwell to cancel out Lee Tomlin's opener.

The Bees made one change from the side who beat Ipswich with Nico Yennaris returning from illness and replaced Alan Judge after his broken leg at Portman Road.

The home side started on the front foot and Lasse Vibe had two great chances to score but he was unable to take them, thanks to some good defending.

Sam Saunders also took advantage of a slip from Marlon Pack but his cut-back was intercepted brilliantly.

Having made such a dominant start, the visitors came into the game although it was still Brentford on the front foot.

But they were punished just before the break as Tomlin was given too much time and space to curl his shot into the net and give the Robins the lead.

Brentford went looking for an equaliser but, in Aden Flint and Nathan Baker, the City defence held firm.

When they were breached, the home side came across an inspired Richard O'Donnell in goal and he made a superb save from Lasse Vibe.

The Bees had a golden opportunity to equalise when Scott Hogan was brought down in the penalty area.

The striker picked himself up but the impressive O'Donnell was equal to his spot-kick, keeping it out of the bottom corner.

When it looked as if Brentford would leave without a goal their efforts deserved, Hogan made up for his penalty miss by heading home after a ball into the box from Clarke.
