Sam Saunders scored his first goal of the season to lead Brentford but they were pegged back at home to Leeds.

The winger, who was out on loan at Wycombe at the end of last season and has suffered with injuries, surged through the middle and rifled a shot past Marco Silvestri.

Over the course of the contest, Leeds had the better chances with David Button making an excellent save from Mirco Antenucci, while Harlee Dean made two impressive tackles to deny the frontman.

And they had their equaliser as Jake Bidwell lost the ball in the penalty area and Mustapha Carayol curled home with just over five minutes remaining.

Brentford had a lot of the early running but were unable to break down the stubborn Leeds defence.

However, some quick thinking from Saunders saw the Bees open the scoring as he ran at the visiting defence and fired home from the edge of the area.

Brentford were grateful to David Button and Harlee Dean as, first, the goalkeeper made an excellent save to deny Antenucci before Dean eased the striker off the ball, who was appealing for a penalty.

The second half saw Leeds come into the game more and Leeds started to apply pressure and pushed the home side back towards their own box.

Brentford, though, were masters of their own downfall and Jake Bidwell, normally so composed, lost the ball in the penalty area and allowed Carayol to level the scores.

Souleymane Doukara nearly gave the visitors a stoppage time winner but Button was equal to it.
