Carlisle United 3-2 Brentford - FA Cup 2nd round

Brentford began life post-Uwe Rosler with a disappointing FA Cup exit at Brunton Park.

Assistant manager Alan Kernaghan and first team coach Peter Farrell were n charge, with sporting director Mark Warburton also sharing the duties.

But the trio could not quite re-work the magic that took the Bees on a thrilling run in the competition last season - and a memorable home match with Chelsea.

It has been a bitter-sweet week for the Bees, with Hounslow council approving plans for a new ground at Lionel Road.

But the loss of Rosler, who agreed terms with Championship side Wigan Athletic on the eve of this cup tie, was an undoubted blow.

James Berrett gave Carlisle the lead in first half injury time with a left foot shot into the top corner from outside the area.

The Bees were back on level terms after 63 minutes when Pascal Chimbonda turned the ball into his own net.

But two goals in three minutes from Lee Miller effectively settled the outcome.

On 73 minutes when Miller put away a pass from Berrett and on 76, he tucked home a penalty after Alan McCormack had fouled David Amoo.

The Bees battled to the end an sub Farid El Alagui found the net four minutes from time, heading home a Sam Saunders cross to set up a tight finish.

But it was a case of too little, too late.
