QPR 1-1 Swansea

Happy New Year, Leroy Fer. All four yellow cards wiped out on the stroke of midnight - and the best goal of your Rangers career so far.

The fly in the ointment was a poke home into the corner from sub Wilfried Bony in time added on that ruined the first day of 2015 for the home side.

Not so fortunate was former Hoop Wayne Routledge who kicked out at Karl Henry while on the floor and was red carded with four minutes left.

It was Routledge through on goal who carved out the first chance of an entertaining game, but on the very edge of his box Rob Green got a vital hand to the ball, and Richard Dunne mopped up the danger.

Charlie Austin looked stunned he was all alone on the six yard box and scuffed a shot, the striker would normally have gobbled up.

But the left-foot missile from Fer was a bigger surprise. Lukasz Fabianski got a hand to it, and save for the net the ball would still have been flying west.

Bobby Zamora rightly gave himself grief when he missed a simple header from a cross, and Bafetimbi Gomis was also in the doghouse when clear on the right only to skew his shot wide of Green's goal.

Austin then wriggled free at the back post minutes into the second half to graze the near post from a header. Barton's nod a bit later was on target but lacked any fizz to beat the busy Fabianski.

However, Gylfi Sigurdsson showed their was life left in the opposition when he curled a dead centre shot just wide of Green's goal.

Fer had another crack from distance on 70 minutes but the low drive raced past the right hand post without troubling Fabianski.

But the save of the match was next. Green did brilliantly to claw away sub Wilfried Bony's chipped free-kick and maintain Rs lead.

Somehow, Green and Dunne denied Gomis at the back post in the last post with the Rs stalwart defender hacking clear as the ball trickled towards the goal.

The end-to-end fare kept a-coming as Vargas got free on the right, should have squared for Zamora, but elected to have a go at the near post and only found the side netting.

Routledge found the referee reaching for his side pocket, and right at the death three goes from Rangers inside the box, had Austin skying over when it was harder to miss.
