Burnley 2-1 QPR

QPR slipped to defeat at fellow strugglers Burnley to set a new Premier League record for 10 consecutive losses on the road.

Scott Arfield opened the scoring for the Clarets before Charlie Austin levelled from the penalty spot and Danny Ings got what proved to be the winner shortly before half-time.

Harry Redknapp ripped apart the team that were knocked out of the FA Cup by Sheffield United and made seven changes in Lancashire.

Opener: Scott Arfield scores the first goal for Burnley

The R’s were without Rio Ferdinand but Adel Taarabt made his first appearance since the defeat by West Ham in October as he replaced Bobby Zamora.

Mauro Zarate, a winter loan signing from the Hammers, took his place on the bench. Skipper Jason Shackell and midfielder David Jones both returned for Burnley.

A little more than 10 minutes had been played when the deadlock was broken by the home side through Arfield as he got the better of Mauricio Isla and curled his shot past Rob Green.

Ben Mee spurned a glorious chance of doubling the lead before QPR finally woke up, Austin cracking one off the post and Leroy Fer going close to levelling things up.

They had the breakthrough on 33 minutes. Dean Marney clumsily tripped Austin and the forward rammed home the resulting spot-kick.

Rangers lacked a bit of discipline though and found themselves behind as they trudged off at half-time after Ings restored the home side’s advantage.

Joey Barton, Karl Henry, Taarabt and Eduardo Vargas all tried their luck in the second period but it was Burnley who appeared, at first, to have extended their lead.

Jones swung in a corner, which caused chaos in the R’s penalty area, which Mee got his head to and the ball was bundled home by the Clarets.

However, the referee and his assistant came to Rangers’ rescue and deemed Green had been fouled in the melee and the visitors remained in the hunt at Turf Moor.

Debutant Zarate and workhorse Zamora were late substitutes by Redknapp in an attempt to salvage a point against Sean Dyche’s men.

Michael Keane, fresh from completing his move from Manchester United this week, almost made it three for Burnley late on but Green saved superbly.

Caulker forced Heaton into action late on but it finished 2-1 and QPR are yet to find a cure for their travel sickness. The wait for an away victory continues.

QPR: Green, Isla, Dunne, Caulker, Hill (Traore), Vargas (Zarate), Henry (Zamora), Barton, Fer, Taarabt, Austin.

Subs (not used): Phillips, McCarthy, Mutch, Onuoha.
