Hayes & Yeading ended 2014 four points above the Conference South relegation zone following a miserable Christmas for Phil Babb’s men.

United were beaten 2-0 by landlords Maidenhead on Boxing Day and there was no festive cheer two days later as they were beaten 2-1 at home to Weston-super-Mare.

Boss Babb stuck with the same XI that saw off Chelmsford for the clash with the Magpies but Danny Green’s second-half double settled the game at York Road.

Nathan Elder opened the scoring against Weston before Matt Jay and Dayle Grubb strikes ensured the two games yielded no points for the men in red.

It means Hayes & Yeading have now won just one league match in eight and are slipping back towards the trapdoor after such a positive start to the campaign.

Next up for Babb’s men is the return fixture with Maidenhead on New Year’s Day.
