RYMAN PREMIER:

Enfield Town 1-0 Harrow Borough

Genial Irishman Dave Anderson is probably still trying to work out how his side did not win their second pivotal clash with Town in four days settled by a goalkeeping howler from James Shea on the half hour which allowed Corey Whitely to poach the game’s only goal.

The visitors, who lost striker Simeon Akinola to injury, found Town keeper Noel Imber in inspired form and struck the woodwork three times before compounding their misery when Victor Osobu missed the chance to grab a point when his penalty was saved.

The deadlock was broken in the 29 minute when one error too many led to the home side taking the lead. Shea came to the edge of the penalty area to meet an innocuously looking cross in from the right and under pressure dropped the ball to enable Whitely to shot home into an empty net.

The Boro’ custodian’s reaction suggested he felt he was impeded, but his complaint to the referee fell on deaf ears.
There were plenty of other chances, particularly for the visitors, but Imber was in inspired form saving from Steve Butterworth and Michael Peacock, who also hit the bar with a header. Ten minutes from time Borough were given a golden opportunity to grab a point when substitute Marc Charles-Smith sent Osobu into the home area and when he was felled, the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Osobu got up to take the spot-kick and although it was firmly struck and close to the ‘keepers right hand post, Imber made a fine save.

Harrow didn’t give up but further chances never really materialised and thus fell to a five successive away defeat in the league, a run they will be anxious to bring to an end at Thamesmead Town on Saturday.
