Bristol City 0 Brentford 1

Maxim Colin bagged his second goal of the season to make it two wins in four days for Brentford at Bristol City tonight.

The flying Frenchman deflected home a second half shot from Romaine Sawyers for what was somehow the only goal of a thoroughly entertaining game.

The Bees made a good start as Lasse Vibe's effort was headed behind by Aden Flint, and home keeper Frank Fielding saved with his feet from Scott Hogan. But City had early chances too, as Bobby Reid screwed wide after making space for himself and Dan Bentley saved from Luke Freeman.

Colin would have had a free far post header had Tom Field's cross not been inches too high for him, while at the other end, Bentley made a fantastic fingertip save to keep out Joe Bryan's header.

Midway through the first half, each team missed a gilt-egded, Hogan first hitting the ball straight at Fielding when a defensive error put him one on one, before Tammy Abrahams was unable to convert from a couple of yards out at the other end.

There was more of the same in the final throes of the half, Bentley saving superbly after Sawyers sold him short with a back pass and Abrahams pounced, while straight up the other end, Hogan was through but denied by sub keeper Ivan Lucic, on for the injured Fielding.

The chances continued to come in the second half, the first barely a minute in when Abraham smashed his shot against the bar from Bryan's lay-off, before Reid guided Marlon Pack's pull-back just wide from a few yards out.

Hogan was next to try, picking up on a poor back pass but Lucic saving his first time effort, before John Egan got in a perfectly-timed block as Abraham pulled the trigger and looked certain to score.

City should have scored around the hour mark when Abraham beat the offside trap on the break and chipped Bentley, the ball coming back off the post, leaving it to Colin to finally break the deadlock when he deflected Sawyers' 25-yard belter past Lucic.

Defender John Egan so nearly doubled Brentford's lead soon after, but saw his shot goal-bound blocked from seven yards out, while follow-ups from Sawyers and Josh McEachran were also snuffed out.

Bentley then had to be quick off his line to save from Gustav Engvall, while McEachran almost made it safe in injury time, chipping Lucic, who had come up for a corner, from 40 yards, but his shot dropping just wide.

No matter though, the Bees had done enough, and all of a sudden the doom and gloom of 10 days ago seems a long way off.
