AFC Wimbledon suffered defeat at Kenilworth Road thanks to a Jack Marriott double after Karleigh Osborne was sent-off in the 33rd minute.

The Hatters had struggled to get into the tie before the incident and the Dons had opportunities to score despite Luton having the man advantage.

George Francomb was the first to test the opposition keeper in the 17th minute - shooting from near the edge of the area after a Dons corner, but his strike was straight at the keeper.

AFC Wimbledon's best chance of the half came when Jake Reeves' shot from edge of box nearly looped Mark Tyler, but the Hatters' keeper got a hand onto it to deflect it for a corner.

Luton started to get into the tie on the half hour mark when Osborne received his marching orders after picking up two bookings in the space of three minutes.

The home side started to turn the screw after the dismissal and when Craig Mackail-Smith found himself unmarked at the back post in the 32nd minute it could have been the first goal of the afternoon, but the forward struck the ball wildly and it ended up towards the corner flag.

The momentum swung into the home side's favour with Paddy McCourt unleashing a fierce drive over the bar as Neal Ardley's side struggled to keep hold of the ball.

Ardley threw a roll of the dice at the break, replacing Adebayo Azeez with Sean Rigg and it nearly paid off immediately when Adebayo Akinfenwa got his head onto a James Shea punt, knocking it on to Rigg who dragged his shot too far wide of Tyler's right-hand post.

Scott Griffiths came close to breaking the deadlock on the hour mark but Shea was equal to the left back's strike and was able to get down to his left hand post to make the stop.

Reeves demonstrated some great footwork 67 minutes in to pass and release George Francomb on the right wing who crossed for Akinfenwa, but the striker's header didn't have enough power behind it to trouble Tyler.

Luton began to lay siege to the Dons penalty box and Ardley's side could count themselves fortunate that they were still level after 69 minutes when the ball ricocheted around the box, but no one in orange was able to get a foot on it.

Rigg nearly put Wimbledon in front after some nice play from the Dons front men, but his fierce strike from the edge of the 18-yard box was a good height for Tyler, who got himself up to pounce onto the rebound.

The relentless pressure soon paid off for the Hatters when substitute Marriott tucked the ball home after an initial shot was blocked by the Dons defence.

Akinfenwa forced Tyler to pull off a finger tip save to stop his header from finding the net with four minutes remaining in the tie.

But Luton secured the win in the final minute of stoppage time when Marriott got his second - smashing the ball into the back of the net after Shea saved well from Cameron McGeehan.
