St Albans City 1-1 Wealdstone

Scott McGleish earned an FA Trophy replay for Wealdstone FC with a dramatic 87th minute equaliser against St Albans City.

The experienced striker powered a thumping header past City keeper Joe Welch three minutes after the home side had taken the lead.

Wealdstone have made a habit of conceding late goals so Nathan Green’s strike past Jonathan North in the 84th minute came as no surprise.

But Stones, who missed a penalty in the first half, fought back and earned an FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round replay at The Vale tomorrow night.

Shaun Lucien was terrorising the Saints’ defence early on and forced a good save from Welch after cutting inside.

Ryan Watts powered in a cross towards Elliott Godfrey who fired wide as Stones continued to build momentum.

Lucien’s shot struck an arm in the Saints’ box and the assistant referee signalled for a penalty.

Sean Cronin stepped up but his placed effort cannoned off the post and the sides went in level at half time.

St Albans came out the blocks faster in the second half and had an effort cleared off the line as they began to pile pressure onto the away side.

Their second-half pressure looked to have sealed victory as Green found space through the middle and his shot beat North to put St Albans 1-0 ahead.

Godfrey floated in a free kick minutes later and McGleish powered a header past Welch.

The result sets up an enthralling replay tomorrow night as both sides look to seal their place in the first round of the main competition.
