Martin Jol hopes Fulham's win against Everton can kick-start their season.

Second-half goals from Dimitar Berbatov and substitute Darren Bent helped them into the fourth round of the Capital One Cup with a 2-1 victory against Everton at Craven Cottage.

It was Fulham's first home win since the beginning of April and their first since they beat Burton in the last round almost two months ago.

And Jol hopes they can carry the momentum into Saturday's crunch clash with Cardiff City.

He said: “It's a big relief. It’s a long time ago since the last win against Sunderland.

“It’s a good feeling to win a game again. Hopefully we can carry that momentum into Saturday.

“We played three away games and had Arsenal and Chelsea. We were probably fortunate to win at Sunderland.

“In a way if the mentality stays like this we’ve got three home games. We’ve got one tonight the next two and hopefully we can get into the other half of the table.”

Fulham ended a run of four games without a win which had turned up the heat on boss Jol.

But the Dutchman believes having Berbatov, Bent and Adel Taarabt all available was crucial.

He added: “It’s about selection and players. Bent came, scored his first goal and then was out with injury.

“Adel scored a goal against Burton. You get these players because you know if Bent and Adel are not here there are not goals in us to win games.

“Last week Bent was not there so we struggled a bit as we were waiting for goals to win games and we couldn’t score and we could score at the right moments.”
