Red Bull Leipzig 2-0 QPR

Trialist Jack Collison played 45 minutes as QPR’s pre-season preparations took a blow with defeat against Red Bull Leipzig.

The former West Ham midfielder has been training with the R’s after being handed a chance to get fit by boss Harry Redknapp.

And the Welsh international, who has been troubled by a knee problem, came through the second half unscathed as Yussuf Poulsen’s brace saw Rangers well beaten by the Bundesliga 2 side in the final game of their pre-season tour to Germany.

Rio Ferdinand was handed his debut in a back three as Redknapp paired the former Manchester United defender alongside Clint Hill and Richard Dunne.

Rangers almost took the lead when Danny Simpson – playing as a right wing-back – tried to pick out Charlie Austin in the middle, only for the cross to be cut out.

It was all one-way traffic after that.

Rani Khedira – young brother of Germany star and long-time Arsenal target Sami - crashed a free-kick against the bar as the hosts threatened.

Ferdinand was replaced by fellow new boy Steven Caulker at the break as Redknapp made a flurry of substitutions.

Leipzig continued to look the more dangerous. John-Patrick Strauss steered a shot the wrong side of the post at the beginning of the second half, while Poulsen had an effort blocked.

And their pressure paid off when Poulsen beat the offside trap and slotted past Green around the hour mark.

Shaun Wright-Phillips stung the hands of Benjamin Bellot at the other end as the visitors mustered a rare attempt at goal.

But Red Bull frontman Poulsen bagged his second to clinch victory when he fired home from inside the box after being teed-up by Strauss towards the end.
