Hayes & Yeading 1-1 Eastleigh

Hayes & Yeading earned a point against top of the league Eastleigh to extend their unbeaten run to five.

Pat Cox’s first goal for United in the 70th minute cancelled out Craig McAllister’s controversial opener in a game where you really could not tell the difference between top and bottom of the Skrill South.

It was the home side who started the game the brightest and skipper Dean Inman came close to an opener 19 minutes in when he connected to a cross from a corner, only to head inches past the right hand post.

Eastleigh’s first chance came half an hour into game, but winger Jai Reason’s strike found itself in the top of the stand after he shot from the edge of the area.

The league leaders started to find their momentum and nearly found an opener in the 43rd minute when some promising build up play found McAllister in the box, however Adam Everitt was on hand to make an important clearance just in the nick of time.

The match erupted into controversy on the stroke of half time when referee Derek Eaton awarded Eastleigh a free kick 30 yards out when it seemed that Inman had played the ball.

Reason whipped in the resulting free kick that McAllister met to head into the left hand corner, giving Eastleigh a fortunate half time lead

The second half started quietly until the 70th minute when Jack Mills’ curling cross found Cox at the back post who slotted home to give Hayes an equaliser.

And Cox could have sealed all three points for Phil Babb’s men in the dying moments, but his fantastic turn and shot was met with an equally sensational save by Ross Flitney to ensure Hayes & Yeading only shared the points at the Kingfield.
