Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was beaten 4-0 on his return to Stamford Bridge with Manchester United on Sunday. Here, we look at the self-proclaimed Special One's frustrating afternoon.

RECEPTION

Chelsea were remembering one of their own on Sunday, 20 years and a day after director Matthew Harding's death in a helicopter crash on return from a match at Bolton. Mourinho received a warm welcome on his return with Inter Milan en route to their Champions League win in 2010. This time he was virtually ignored by the crowd. And Roman Abramovich, who has twice sacked the Portuguese, was not in his box, a day before his 50th birthday.

PLAYER INTERACTION

Jose Mourinho speaks to John Terry

Chelsea captain John Terry, a substitute, shared a warm embrace with his former manager on the touchline as the teams warmed up. Eden Hazard, with whom Mourinho had a hot and cold relationship at Chelsea, shook hands with the Portuguese as he left the field following his warm-up. Mourinho also shook hands with backroom staff and groundstaff.

FICKLE FANS

Gone were the "Jose Mourinho" chants so prominent even in the days after his sacking last December - and even after he criticised the Blues supporters while praising those of Liverpool and Crystal Palace. "You're not special any more" and "who are you?" were sung in Mourinho's direction when Gary Cahill gave Chelsea a 2-0 lead. "Who are you?" was shouted louder than before after Hazard made it 3-0. Then the Stamford Bridge faithful mocked Mourinho after N'Golo Kante scores a fourth. "Jose Mourinho, we want you to stay," some sang.

UNRAVELLING REMINDER

N'Golo Kante celebrates

Mourinho's teams were once nigh-on unbeatable at Stamford Bridge. His first Premier League home loss came in his 77th match. His second came in his 100th home league game and he suffered two more at home before being sacked. So incoherent was United's display that it was a reminder of the Chelsea of last autumn, under Mourinho.

NO REASON TO CELEBRATE

Mourinho announced himself with Porto with a touchline dart at Old Trafford - a celebration he repeated when Chelsea manager. He also entered the crowd to celebrate late goals with his son, whose seat behind the away dugout was moved behind the home one following one late win over Manchester City. Mourinho vowed not to celebrate at Stamford Bridge as opposition boss - and was given no reason to do so.
