Whitehawk 1-0 Hayes & Yeading United

Hayes & Yeading’s five-match unbeaten run came to an end at Whitehawk last night as the spectre of relegation reared its ugly head once more.

United were beaten 1-0 in Brighton and only goal difference is keeping Phil Babb’s side above the trapdoor.

Fellow strugglers Gosport and Maidenhead both picked up victories and only a last-gasp Concord Rangers leveller prevented Tonbridge making it the worst-case scenario.

It was a far-cry from the heroic performance on Sunday that saw United claim a battling point against title-favourites Eastleigh at Kingfield.

Neither side created a lot on a dire night of football in Whitehawk, with Sami El-Abd’s second-half strike proving the difference between the two teams.

Although Hayes & Yeading are precariously close to the drop zone, Babb’s side do boast two games in hand on third-from-bottom Maidenhead.
