Hayes and Yeading United 3–0 Tonbridge Angels

Hayes and Yeading gained revenge for their earlier FA Cup exit at the hands of Tonbridge Angels with a convincing  victory at Kingfield, moving up to joint-fifth in the Skrill South in the process.

United controlled much of the early play without creating any real clear-cut chances, until a rash challenge in the area by Phil Appiah gifted the home side a penalty. Jake Reid converted the kick in expert fashion past Clark Masters in the Angels’ goal to give his team the lead after 17 minutes of play.

Tonbridge were lucky not to find themselves further behind when a mix up between their two centre-backs gifted Geoff Mitchell and Reid a two on one with the ‘keeper, only for Mitchell to drag his shot wide of the goal.

As half time approached though, the home side finally converted their dominance into that all important second goal – and what a goal it was too. A ball into the Angels’ box was poorly cleared only for Jack Mills to run onto it and smash it home from 25 yards out.

Tonbridge were the better side at the start of the second half, but a combination of calm United defending and wastefulness by the visitors meant that the home goal was never seriously troubled.

Luke Williams came close to putting the game out of reach with ten minutes remaining, but his dipping shot cannoned off the Tonbridge bar after great link-up work with Reid.

United kept up the intensity right until the final whistle and were rewarded for their sustained effort when the energetic Geoff Mitchell, who had been influential all afternoon, was played through on goal by Williams and added a deserved third for his team.
