Notts County 0-1 Brentford

Will Grigg scored a first-half winner as Brentford continued their unbeaten run with a hard-fought win at Meadow Lane.

The Northern Ireland international fired the Bees to victory with his strike late in the first half to keep up the heat at the top of the table.

Uwe Rosler made two changes from the side that beat Peterborough in midweek, with Toumani Diagouraga and Grigg replacing George Saville and Marcello Trotta.

The Bees could've been behind inside four minutes. David Button spilled Jack Grealish's long shot, but the keeper made amends to deny Danny Haynes and Jamal Campbell-Ryce from the follow up.

Brentford struggled to find a rhythm on a sticky pitch, with a curling Adam Forshaw effort the closest they came in the opening half an hour.

Button looked shaky again midway through the half when he flapped at a Alan Sheehan cross, but fortunately Clayton Donaldson was in the right place at the right time to block Gary Liddle's shot on the line.

Campbell-Ryce wasted a good chance for the hosts just before the break when he blazed Haynes' cross over the bar from a tight angle.

And County were made to pay on the stroke of half-time. Diagouarga threaded the ball into the path of Grigg, who drilled the ball under Bartosz Bialkowski to give the visitors the lead against the run of play.

The home side had a penalty shout at the beginning of the second half when Haynes' cross appeared to strike the hand of Tony Craig, but referee Nigel Miller waved away appeals.

Grealish had a shot blocked by Craig, while at the other end, Bialkowski beat away a Forshaw shot from distance.

Brentford squandered a great chance to double their lead on the hour mark when Donaldson raced onto Grigg's flick, but the former Crewe frontman's left-footed shot across goal clipped the outside of the post.

Donaldson headed a Jake Bidwell free-kick wide, while Kadeem Harris was denied by the feet of Bialkowski as the visitors searched for a killer second.

Grigg wasted a glorious opportunity to make the points safe when sub Saville sent him in the clear, only to be thwarted by Bialkowski.

Button came to Brentford's rescue in added time when he parried a Callum McGregor effort, then held Sheehan's free-kick.
