Sheyi Ojo's first half goal secured all three points for Fulham as they made hard work of a poor Birmingham City side.

Slavisa Jokanovic made two changes for today's tie, dropping David Button for Marcus Bettinelli, while recalling Tim Ream after injury for the suspended Denis Odoi.

Fulham took the lead thanks to some lovely football via Ryan Sessegnon, Tom Cairney, Neeskens Kebano and eventually Ojo who finished well.

The home side continued to exert pressure on the Birmingham defence but were unable to find a breakthrough, with Stefan Johansen coming closest in the second half.

The away side were awarded a soft penalty when McDonald raised his boot in the area, but Jeremie Boga stepped up and blazed the ball over the bar.

Here's how we rated the side:

Bettinelli 6: A few dodgy goal kicks in the first half as he looked to settle into the game. Wasn't able to build play from the back line Button is.

Fredericks 6: Did well down the right and was Fulham's main outlet for attacks. Caused problem after problem and put in a number of good crosses into the area.

Sessegnon 6: A good first half from the youngster who was a constant threat down the left in the first half. Was an attacking threat in the second by proved he could defend with a lovely back post clearance.

McDonald 7: Instrumental in the middle of the park as he broke up Birmingham's attack and set Fulham on their way. Gave away a penalty after raising his boot in the box but a good performance.

Kebano 6: Played a good part in the first goal as he picked out Ojo. Should've scored on the stroke of half time but injured himself and was replaced by Kamara.

Johansen 6: Looked more comfortable in the false nine position this afternoon, dropping into space to receive the ball and play in the wingers.

Cairney 6: Did well with a few nice passes into the front men as he looked to get Fulham moving forward. Was a fairly quiet game from the captain.

Ream 7: Solid performance from the American as he returned to the team. Looked to continue his good run of form before his injury and was calm and composed on the ball.

Norwood 6: Got on the ball a lot in space in the middle but there was no real threat about his selection of passes.

Ojo 7: Scored a very good goal when he got in front of his man to tuck home a lovely piece of flowing football. Started to cause more problems as the game went on as he interchanged in the front three.

Kalas 7: Did well in the heart of defence alongside Ream. Produced a good performance and was solid in the air against a physical Birmingham side.

Subs -

Kamara 6: Caused the Birmingham back line all sorts of problems with his speed in the second half but quietened down as the game progressed.

Fonte 7: Good movement to get in behind from a Fulham free kick and was everywhere when coming on. A much better performance from Fonte - this is what we need to see more of.

Djalo N/A: Didn't have enough time to impact on the game
