Tom Cairney's second spectacular goal in as many games was not enough to force a win at Hull and there is concern for the Whites after striker Matt Smith and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli were involved in a sickening collision.

Ahmed Elmohamady had given the Tigers a first-half lead as the home side had the Cottagers pegged back into their own half.

Worse was to follow before the interval as Bettinelli and Smith collided with both players screaming in pain as they were taken off.

Cairney though produced a scintillating equaliser as the former Blackburn man picked up the ball on the edge of the area before firing home past the stationary Allan McGregor.

And, with time running out Sone Aluko made Hull's pressure count with a late winner to leave the Whites facing a long journey home.
