Brentford 5-0 Crewe Alexandra

Brentford cruised to their sixth win on the spin with a demolition of Crewe at Griffin Park.

Clayton Donaldson came back to haunt his former club with a second-half brace, while Marcello Trotta, Adam Forshaw and George Saville were also on the scoresheet as the Bees went goal crazy for the second successive Saturday.

The Bees dominated throughout, with Trotta wasting a glorious chance on 18 minutes when the ball broke to him in the box, only to smash his effort over the bar with his weaker right foot.

Brentford were given a scare at the other end when Byron Moore was allowed to run unchallenged before his shot was blocked by Tony Craig.

Alan Martin came to Crewe's rescue towards the end of the half when he dived full-stretch to his right to claw out Trotta's close-range header.

However, the keeper could do nothing to stop the on-loan Fulham frontman opening the scoring on the stroke of half time.

Forshaw's free-kick was only half cleared, and the onrushing Trotta powered a header into the corner from 12 yards.

Brentford doubled their lead 60 seconds after the break.

Donaldson's flick found Trotta, who played in Forshaw to calmly slot the ball beyond Martin to put the hosts in the driving seat.

It should've been 3-0 five minutes later when Jonathan Douglas' deflected shot came back off the post, but Donaldson blazed over with the goal gaping.

However, the Bees did add a third just before the hour mark. Will Grigg, who was an unused sub for Northern Ireland less than 24 hours earlier, teed-up Saville to fire in off the post from 20 yards.

It was 4-0 a couple of minutes later, Donaldson this time getting in on the act when he tapped in from close range.

Brentford's leading scorer doubled his tally for the afternoon shortly after, sliding the ball past Martin after being played in by sub Farid El Alagui.

Bees: Button, McCormack, Dean, Craig, Bidwell, Douglas, Forshaw (Reeves 75), Saville, Donaldson, Harris (Grigg 51), Trotta (El Alagui 71).

Subs (not used): O'Brien, Nugent, Logan, Diagouraga.
