Diego Costa sought to kill talk about a departure from Chelsea as he scored the winner for the Blues against Hull to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points.

The Spaniard tucked home in the seventh minute of first half added time, brought about by Gary Cahill's collision with Ryan Mason that saw the Tigers man stretchered off, and celebrated by mimicking talking with his hands.

The Chelsea captain sealed the victory when he powered a header at the back post from Cesc Fabregas' free kick to wrap up the points for a Chelsea side that were nowhere near their best.

All eyes were on Costa after the Spaniard was subject to a bid from the Chinese Premier League in the past 10 days and had argued with Antonio Conte ahead of the game with Leicester.

And he nearly had Chelsea in front inside the first 10 seconds when his driving shot went just wide of the post.

Ouch: Ryan Mason

The Blues started to dominate the game against a relegation threatened Hull and they were looking lively until Cahill's collision with Mason left both players down and in some pain.

The Chelsea skipper was able to pick himself up but the former Tottenham man was not so fortunate and he was stretchered off after a nine minute delay.

Hull held out until just before the break when Victor Moses crossed the ball in for Costa to fire home.

The Tigers were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty after the break when Marcos Alonso brought down Abel Hernandez but Neil Swarbrick waved appeals away.

Hull started to dominate proceedings but were unable to break a stubborn Chelsea defence down.

And that came back to haunt the visitors in the final 10 minutes as Fabregas' free kick found an unmarked Cahill at the back post and he wrapped up the victory.
