Chelsea got back on the winning trail in the Premier League with victory over Arsenal in a fiery affair at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners ended the match with 9 men in west London as goals from Kurt Zouma and Eden Hazard ended a run of back-to-back domestic defeats.

John Terry had to settle for a place on the bench again as the much-maligned Branislav Ivanovic took possession of the captain’s armband.

Petr Cech made his return to the Bridge following his summer transfer to the north Londoners and was afforded a warm reception by the crowd.

It was a surprisingly cagey opening 45 minutes until the game exploded into life on the stroke of half-time with Diego Costa finding himself at the centre of the storm.

He clashed with Laurent Koscielny and his Gunners team-mate Gabriel before the latter was shown a straight red card for a petulant reaction to leave the visitors to play the second period a man down.

It didn’t take long for that advantage to tell as Zouma crept in undetected to the back post and headed home Cesc Fabregas’ wonderfully-flighted free-kick.

Arsenal’s job was made more difficult when skipper Santi Cazorla became the second player in red to be shown a card of the same colour for a nasty lunge.

And it was left to Hazard to settle the nerves as full-time approached as his shot cannoned in off Callum Chambers and beyond the reach of Cech.
