Hanwell United 2-1 Hanworth Sports Sunday

Captain Ross Ahir was the hero as Hanwell United clinched the Feathers Cup with a hard-fought win against Hanworth Sports Sunday.

The Hanwell hotshot scored twice to fire Dean Spencer’s side to victory and make up for last year’s disappointment when they suffered a heartbreaking extra-time defeat to Sheen Park Rangers.

Ahir gave Hanwell a dream start when he latched onto Chris Barnes’ header forward to nod the ball over the stranded Lucasz Grabowski.

The skipper doubled his team’s lead before the break when he headed in from close range after pinball in the Hanworth box.

However, United were pinned back in the second half as their opponents piled forward as they tried to find a way back into the game.

They were handed a lifeline when Barnes was adjudged to have brought down Robson Lima in the area, and Jack Hamlet stepped up to tuck away the spot-kick.

Hanworth dominated the final 20 minutes and they came close to equalising when Lloyd Vaughan’s sweetly-struck volley cannoned back off the post.

However, Hanwell’s defence stood firm as they held on for an impressive 2-1 win over their Chiswick & District League Division One title rivals.
