Brentford 3-1 Blackburn Rovers

Andre Gray continued his scoring spree as Brentford got back to winning ways against Blackburn.

Second-half goals from Gray and Spanish sensation Jota wrapped up the points to get their play-off push back on track.

Jonathan Douglas had given the home side the lead against his old club before Rudy Gestede equalised for Rovers on 45 minutes.

Mark Warburton made one change from the team that lost at Huddersfield, with Jota replacing Jon Toral.

Brentford flew out of the blocks, with a Gray shot diverted wide by Corry Evans and Alex Pritchard firing a free-kick just over.

Their pressure paid off after 16 minutes. The Blackburn defence failed to clear Moses Odubajo’s ball into the box, and Douglas was on hand to slot home Jake Bidwell’s low cross from four yards out.

Brentford searched for a second and referee Andy Woolmer waved away their penalty appeals when the ball struck the hand of Shane Duffy as he stopped Gray in his tracks.

Jason Steele turned a Pritchard cracker round the post, while at the other end, David Button did well to hold Ben Marshall’s long shot.

Denied: Tony Craig's last-ditch tackle thwarts Rudy Gestede

Rovers grew into the match and Tony Craig’s last-ditch tackle denied Gestede a certain goal.

However, the in-from striker levelled on the stroke of half-time when his acrobatic volley took a wicked deflection off Harlee Dean to wrong-foot Button and nestle into the net.

Steele was called into action at the start of the second half when he dived to right to keep out Jota’s curling effort.

However, he couldn’t stop Gray restoring Brentford’s lead on 55 minutes. The striker made a mess of his first attempt to connect to a Jota through-ball before lashing past Steele at the second time of asking.

Rovers almost levelled instantly, but Marshall’s shot cannoned off the inside of the post before being cleared to safety.

And that miss proved costly as the home side added a third just after the hour mark. The unfortunate Craig Conway diverted Douglas’ pass into the path of Jota, who slotted past Steele.
