Tom Field's first league goal for Brentford was in vain as the Bees were beaten 2-1 at Preston.

The left back, unmarked from a Jota corner, rose to head home from eight yards but it was soon pegged back by Aiden McGeady's 25-yard strike.

Callum Robinson put the home side in front as he beat the offside trap to tap home from close range.

And, with 15 minutes remaining, McGeady was given time and space to curl the ball into the corner and seal the win.

There was time for Brentford to collapse as the defence went AWOL with Daryl Horgan benefiting from it, racing through to slide home before Maxime Colin added a consolation.

The visitors started brightly with the Frenchman providing a threat from full back as the Bees pushed forward.

And it was his work that forced the corner that Brentford scored from. Jota whipped the ball in and Field had plenty of time and space to graze before picking his spot with the header to put the visitors 1-0 up.

The Bees were unable to get into a rhythm though and Florian Jozefzoon presented McGeady with the ball.

The defence stood off him and allowed him to thump the ball into the corner of the net to equalise.

Preston made their pressure count after half time as Harlee Dean and Andreas Bjelland tried, and failed, to play offside allowing Robinson to put Preston in front.

Much like the game at Griffin Park where Brentford found a rhythm and scored for fun in the closing stages, Preston did exactly the same.

The visiting defence hadn't learned their lesson about giving McGeady time to shoot and he buried it into the bottom corner.

The Bees were then at sixes and sevens and Dan Bentley had to make a fine save soon after but he was then beaten by Horgan who had been played through.

There was time for Maxime Colin to score a consolation as his shot deflected in via the crossbar.
