Brentford 3-2 Brighton

Moses Odubajo showed Brighton what they’re missing as Brentford edged a five-goal thriller to climb into the play-off places.

The Bees beat Albion to the winger's signature in the summer and he set his new side on their way to a thrilling victory at Griffin Park.

Brentford started slowly and they were fortunate not to fall behind early on when Andrew Crofts crashed a long-range effort off the inside of the post.

Albion defender Lewis Dunk was lucky to escape with just a booking after bringing down Andre Gray while clean through. Jota dragged the resulting free-kick wide of David Stockdale’s post.

Pressure: Alan Judge hassles former Bee Joao Carlos Teixeira

The visitors went close again when Sam Baldock rounded David Button, but James Tarkowski was in the right place to clear the ball off the line.

However, the Bees raced straight up the other end to break the deadlock on 18 minutes. Alan Judge played in Odubajo on the right-hand side of the box and he fired past Stockdale from a tight angle.

Stockdale denied when a second shortly after when he blocked Gray’s point-blank range effort.

However, the Bees doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark. Odubajo played in Jake Bidwell down the left, and his teasing cross was slotted home by Gray from six yards.

On target: Andre Gray doubles Brentford's advantage

Gordon Greer pulled one back five minutes before the break when he slammed the loose ball home from close range after the Bees failed to deal with Danny Holla’s corner.

Greer had the ball in the net again in first-half stoppage-time, but his effort was ruled out for a foul by Dunk.

But Brentford restored their two-goal cushion nine minutes after the break. Bidwell sent over another inviting cross from the left, and Jonathan Douglas climbed highest to nod past Stockdale.

Albion hit back again on the hour mark when former Bee Joao Teixeira teed-up Holla, who hit an unstoppable curling effort beyond Button from 20 yards.

Joe Bennett missed the chance to level when he dragged his shot across Button’s goal after being played in on the left as Albion went home empty handed.
