Brentford 0-0 Sheffield Wednesday

David Button produced a string of fine saves to ensure Sheffield Wednesday didn’t wreck Brentford’s 125th birthday bash.

The Bees keeper kept his side in it before the break when he thwarted Chris Maguire, Stevie May and Jeremy Helan as honours ended even at Griffin Park.

Brentford started well and thought they had taken the lead when Andre Gray slotted past Kieren Westwood, only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

Out of luck: Andre Gray had a goal chalked off

The visitors hit back but Button was in top form to keep them at bay, while the woodwork came to Brentford's rescue when May's close-range effort hit the inside of the post.

Mark Warburton's men improved in the second half and Liam Palmer was in the right place to clear a Jonathan Douglas header off the line.

Jota wasted a good chance when he blazed over from inside the box, while sub Nick Proschwitz fluffed his lines when he was picked out at the back stick.

Button did well to hold Royston Drenthe’s sweetly-struck free-kick late on, but Westwood was called into action at the other end to deny Proschwitz a winner.
