Nottm Forest 0–3 Brentford
Brilliant Brentford swept aside the ever-increasing fears of a relegation battle with a clinical 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
Goals from Lasse Vibe, Nico Yennaris and Sergi Canos ended a run of four successive defeats, and just one win in nine, which had seen the Bees hurtling towards the Championship danger zone.
The first half was lacking in any real quality, with Forest having a few half chances but Brentford going closest, Maxime Colin drawing a fine save from home keeper Dorus De Vries following a fine Bees move down the right, while Sam Saunders blasted over when perhaps he had the time to take another touch after being put in by Leandro Rodriguez.
Brentford's injury curse continued when Rodriguez went off with a hamstring injury towards the end of the first 45, but it didn't take long for his replacement, Vibe, to make his mark.
The second half was barely a few minutes old as the Dane chases a long ball forward which was poorly defended by Forest, leaving the Vibe free to nip in and open the scoring from 15 yards out.
Brentford were fortunate that Forest didn't draw level soon after when they broke from a blocked Alan Judge free-kick and were five on one, but Judge ran back almost the length of the pitch to make a brilliant goal-saving interception.
Just after the hour mark, the Bees doubled their lead when Jake Bidwell's corner from the right was again poorly defended, and the ball fell kindly for Yennaris to smash home the second and his first goal for the Bees.
And with time running out, some more poor defending by the hosts allowed Judge and Vibe to combine to put in Canos to seal the deal.
There was still time for the hosts to miss a sitter in injury time as the ball cannoned off both David Button and a Forest player, but the day was Brentford's, and another three points against Bolton on Tuesday night will surely see them safe.
