Brentford's lack of cutting edge in the final third prevented them from claiming three points against Brighton after dominating most of the 90 minutes.

The Bees kept their opponents pegged back for much of the contest and had the better chances to win the game.

But they were denied by some good defending from the visitors and, when needed, excellent goalkeeping from David Stockdale.

Brentford, perhaps feeling fresher after not training on Christmas Day unlike their opponents, were out of the traps faster.

Brighton have only lost once in the league this season and it was easy to see why as they defended in numbers as the Bees poured forward.

The closest the Seagulls came to a goal was when Tomer Hemed fired straight at David Button, while David Stockdale had a quiet first half as well.

Jamie Murphy should have given Albion the lead early in the second half but, with just the Bees goalkeeper to beat, curled his shot wide.

With under 15 minutes to go, Stockdale was called into action to brilliantly turn behind James Tarkowski's header.

The former Fulham goalkeeper made another fine save to deny Alan Judge as the game ticked into the final few minutes.

Substitute Philipp Hofmann had a golden opportunity to win it in the final three minutes but his free header was straight at the Brighton keeper.
