Brentford's pre-season campaign continued with an entertaining draw against Southampton.

The Bees took a first half lead through fine team move that ended with Lasse Vibe turning the ball home.

A mix-up between John Egan and Romaine Sawyers saw Charlie Austin equalise before the striker finished off a fine team move.

However, a Fraser Forster howler as he palmed Josh Clarke's cross into his own net saw the spoils shared.

Below are the key points to take away from the contest.

What happened?

Imparting wisdom: Lasse Vibe

Brentford and Southampton played out a high quality first half with the Bees taking the lead before the break through Lasse Vibe.

Romaine Sawyers played a fine ball through to Sergi Canos. The winger charged down the flanks and produced a perfectly weighted pass to Vibe who tucked home.

The Saints were gifted an equaliser after Romaine Sawyers and John Egan collided with Charlie Austin appreciating the gift.

The striker scored again after a fine team move from the visitors before both bosses made multiple changes.

And the Bees levelled in the closing stages after Fraser Forster could only turn a Josh Clarke cross into his own net.

How did the summer signings play?

New Bee: Kamohelo Mokotjo

Kamo Mokotjo was impressive in the first half and he had a knack of being in the right place at the right time.

Speaking to the South African after the game, he was pleased with his display but wanted further improvement.

Neal Maupay looked sharp when he came off the bench, as did Ollie Watkins; the latter embarking on a lung-busting run before firing over.

Henrik Dalsgaard impressed after coming on at right back with the battle for that spot between him and Maxime Colin set to be an intriguing question for Dean Smith to ponder.

What were the good things?

Reece Cole celebrates his fine goal

Brentford going forward were as exciting as ever as they caused the Saints defence all sorts of problems.

Lasse Vibe was a regular thorn in the side of Southampton and he deserved his goal.

Brentford's substitutes continued to impress and if Dean Smith doesn't know what his best XI is then I don't blame him one bit. This squad is very strong from one to 11.

Youngster Reece Cole continues to impress and will, no doubt, see himself considered as part of the senior squad by management soon.

Where can they improve?

Brentford's intensity dropped early in the second half and they gifted Southampton a way back into the game.

The Bees are working on these things behind the scenes and it's best to iron out the mistakes now, rather than see them happen in pre-season than in games where points are dished out.

What happens now?

Brentford travel to MK Dons on Tuesday and conclude their pre-season campaign against Celta Vigo next Saturday.
