Dean Smith got his Brenford reign off to a winning start as his side beat MK Dons 2-0 thanks to goals from Lasse Vibe and Alan Judge.

A late change disrupted Smith's first starting line-up of his tenure when Alan McCormack injured himself in the warm-up, meaning Sergi Canos came into the starting line-up with Josh McEachran replacing him on the bench.

Mk Dons tested the opposite goalkeeper first in the 11th minute when Dean Bowditch got through a James Tarkowski tackle, but the MK number nine shot straight into the hands of David Button.

Brentford had a great chance in the 16th minute when a lovely piece of skill from Toumani Diagouraga set him free of his man in the middle of the pitch before playing a through ball to Canos, but the Spaniard's cross couldn't find Judge and was collected by David Martin.

Winning start: New Manager Dean Smith

The Bees took the lead only minutes later when Judge broke on the counter attack, feeding Jake Bidwell on the left flank who put in a cross right on the head of Vibe - the Dane then guided the ball into Martin's net.

It should have been two when Ryan Woods' header found Judge who was clear through the middle of the pitch, but the midfielder charged into the box and placed his strike right at Martin.

Brentford started to dominate the game half an hour in when Judge rattled the cross bar with a free kick from 20 yards out before Konstantin Kerschbaumer had a shot cleared off the line.

The crossbar was soon becoming the bane of Brentford when Canos managed to rattle his shot against the woodwork when the ball fell to him in the box 34 minutes, leaving the on-loan man wondering how he hadn't managed to double the Bees' lead.

Vibe thought he had his and Brentford's second of the game when the ball fell to him after Tarkowski won a scramble in the box, but he was judged to have been offside just before Nicky Maynard and MK Dons also had a goal chalked off for the same reason.

Scorer: Alan Judge celebrates

Brentford hit the crossbar for a third time in the 51st minute after some nice inter-passing between Kerschbaumer and Canos found Vibe on the edge of the box, but his rocket of a strike cannoned off the woodwork and to safety.

Judge found himself with the ball, acres of space and time 58 minutes in after a Brentford corner, but the Irishman smashed his shot high and far over the crossbar, much to the relief of the travelling MK fans.

The second goal had been coming and Judge was the man who eventually got it 71 minutes in when his shot trickled over the line and past Martin.

Jota made his return from injury in the 80th minute and entered the pitch to rapturous applause from the Brentford fans when he replaced Ryan Woods.

The away side had very little to shout about during the second half but started to get on the ball more in the last few minutes as Brentford settled for what they had.
