Brentford 2-0 Bradford City

Bradford-born striker Clayton Donaldson came back to haunt his boyhood club as Brentford got their automatic promotion push on track at Griffin Park.

After a dull opening 45 minutes, second-half goals from Bantams fan Donaldson and George Saville saw the Bees earn their first win in three games.

Boss Mark Warburton made two changes from the side that drew at Carlisle last time out, with Alan McCormack and Will Grigg returning to the starting XI.

Brentford dominated possession but failed to register a shot on target in the first half. Alan Judge dragged an effort wide, while at the other end, Chris Atkinson blazed over for the Bantams.

Saville fired a long-range effort the wrong side of the post as the sides went in level at the break.

The hosts started the second half on the front foot, and they should've been in front when Judge picked out Grigg, but he steered his shot wide from eight yards.

Donaldson glanced a header wide, but Brentford's leading scorer made no mistake at the next time of asking.

The former Crewe frontman picked up the ball at the edge of the box, and with nothing else on, unleashed an unstoppable left-footed drive into the bottom corner.

Donaldson squandered an easy chance to double Brentford's lead moments later when he blazed over after being picked out by sub Marcello Trotta.

The woodwork came to Bradford's rescue as Jonathan Douglas headed against the upright, while Jon McLaughlin saved Jake Bidwell's follow-up.

However, the Bees did find a second on 75 minutes. Trotta capitalised on hesitation on the Bantams backline, and Saville pounced on the loose ball to slot home.

The on-loan Chelsea man was denied a second when McLaughin kept out his point-blank header, but Brentford ran out comfortable winners.
