Oldham 0-0 Brentford

Brentford were held to a goalless draw at Oldham to slip six points behind Wolves at the top of League One today.

The Bees lost ground on the leaders but a point against the Lactics saw them consolidate their advantage over Leyton Orient, who were beaten by Bradford.

Mark Warburton made three changes to the side that were brushed aside by Rotherham in midweek.

Will Grigg came in to partner Clayton Donaldson up front, Nico Yennaris was handed a rare start in place of Jake Reeves and James Tarkowski replaced Tony Craig at the back for the trip to his former club.

Danny Philliskirk really should’ve given the Lactics the lead on the half-hour but the ex-Chelsea youngster, born and bred in Oldham, somehow managed to head over from the edge of the six-yard box.

Brentford responded well and finished the half strongly. Donaldson thought he had claimed his 18th goal of the season when he unleashed a fierce shot from the edge of the area, only for Paul Rachubka to produce an excellent stop to frustrate the striker.

David Button was far the busier of the two keepers at the start of the second-half, denying James Wilson and James Dayton the chance to put the hosts in front.

Bees also had their share of opportunities in the second period.

However, substitutes Marcello Trotta and Stuart Dalls were both thwarted by the excellent Rachubka and Donaldson watched a late effort go wide.

Button; Yennaris (Diagouraga 75), Dean, Tarkowski, Bidwell; Forshaw, McCormack, Douglas; Donaldson, Grigg (Trotta 62), Judge (Dallas 84).

Subs not used: Lee, O’Connor, Craig, Reeves.
