Hayes & Yeading 0-1 Barnet

A last-minute goal George Sykes goal gave Barnet a 1-0 victory over Hayes and Yeading in the FA Trophy First Round.

In what was a dour game, Sykes tapped in his first goal for Barnet after a good knock-on from Kieron Cadogan.

There were four changes to the Barnet side that beat Dartford 2-0 on Tuesday.

Luke Gambin and Elliott Johnson were replaced by Kieron Cadogan and Curtis Weston, while centre-midfielders Edgar Davids and Carl Fletcher slotted in at centre-back in place of David Stephens and Jack Saville.

The first real chance came to The Bees after 17 minutes.

George Sykes floated a header to former Hayes & Yeading star Andy Yiadom, whose strong effort was saved by Jamie Young in the United goal.

Two minutes later and it could have been the home side who took the lead.

The ball made its way to Jake Reid who was thwarted by Barnet goalkeeper Graham Stack when through on goal.

Just before the half-hour mark and Barnet had a golden opportunity.

A defensive slip-up let George Sykes through, but he could only fire his shot straight at Young.

On the stroke of half-time, Dean Inman was inches away from opening the scoring.

Luke Williams flighted in a free-kick, which met the head of captain Inman with Stack clawing it out for a corner magnificently.

The first real opportunity of the second-half came when Luisma Villa's deflected effort was easily caught by Young midway through the half.

The Spaniard almost got a second goal from a set-piece in the space of a week, curling his free-kick just wide of the mark on 74 minutes.

Twelve minutes later and Davids' side really should have gone in front. A low cross was hit into the box by Villa but Sykes could only hit the top of the bar from close range.

Cadogan also could have scored, with his low shot just inside the box being fantastically saved by Young.

But with seconds left of the 90 minutes to play, Barnet broke the deadlock.

Cadogan brilliantly headed a ball onto Sykes for youngster to acrobatically tap-in his first goal in Barnet colours to take them through to the second round.
