Rot-Weiss Erfurt 0-1 QPR

Charlie Austin's first-half goal gave QPR the perfect start to their pre-season campaign with victory in East Germany.

The former Burnley frontman bagged the winner on 22 minutes after a quickly-taken free-kick by Joey Barton.

Austin had a goal chalked off by the linesman's flag early on, while Christian Falk's shot was blocked by R's youngster James Sendles-White.

However, Austin gave QPR the lead midway through the half as the Erfurt defence stood still.

Rob Green did well to deny Falk with his feet, while the Erfurt striker was thwarted by the woodwork just before the break when his header crashed against the bar.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp rang the changes at the interval as he gave his squad valuable minutes in the build up to the new campaign.

Clint Hill's last-ditch tackle denied Andreas Wiegel a certain equaliser as the hosts piled forward in the second half.

New signing Rio Ferdinand and trialist Jack Collison watched from the stands as the west Londoners held on for a hard-fought win.
