Brentford 1-3 Derby

Derby staged a late blitz to condemn Brentford to three defeats on the spin.

The Bees were grateful to David Button's goalkeeping in the first half but took the lead seven minutes into the second thanks to a wonderful individual goal from Alan Judge.

However, the Rams struck twice in the final 10 minutes through Jeff Hendrick and Cyrus Christie to take the three points with Chris Martin finishing matters with the last kick of the game.

Smith made three changes from the side heavily beaten at Sheffield Wednesday. Jack O'Connell came in for the suspended Yoann Barbet. Josh McEachran replaced Sergi Canos, while Lasse Vibe came in for Philipp Hofmann.

It did not have much of an effect on the first-half as Derby piled on the pressure and, were it not for David Button in the Brentford goal, the Rams would have been out of sight at the break.

Jeff Hendrick was the first man to test the Bees goalkeeper but Button produced a double save to deny him.

Darren Bent was the next man to be denied by the shot-stopper as Button blocked his effort with the help of the Brentford defence.

Button was also called into action to deny Jake Bidwell as the Bees captain went perilously close to scoring an own goal.

Derby were only tested on two occasions as Jack O'Connell headed wide and Judge allowed Scott Carson to make a Hollywood save.

Jonny Russell was the final man to test the Bees' keeper after Judge lost the ball. However, he was denied by Button as Brentford got through to half-time all square.

The Bees have been reliant on the Irishman going forward and the Irishman produced a moment of magic as he pinched the ball in the middle, ran at the Derby defence and curled the ball past Scott Carson to give the Bees a lead they scarcely deserved.

Close: Jack O'Connell

From that moment on, Brentford started sitting back deeper and deeper, allowing the Rams to pile forward.

And the pressure told in the final 10 minutes as Harlee Dean's clearance was charged down, with the home side appealing for hand ball, but Jeff Hendrick was on hand to level the scores.

Just four minutes later, Derby had the lead as they broke through the Bees' defence and Christie fired home after Button could only parry the original effort.

Brentford nearly levelled the scores as Bidwell's header was cleared off the line in the dying seconds but Derby countered with Martin finishing the move and the contest.
