After a difficult week for the club, a depleted AFC Wimbledon came away from Chesterfield with a goalless draw.

With six key first team players out injured and the hurt of Tuesday’s FA Cup exit to Sutton United still raw, the Dons did well to hold on for a 0-0 draw thanks to some stubborn second-half defending.

Here, GetWestLondon assess the performance of those from Kingsmeadow.

James Shea- 8. Another confident display from the Arsenal trainee. Secure under the high ball, apart from an awry first-half punch, and made the best save of the game from Nolan just after the break.

Barry Fuller- 7. The skipper hobbled through most of this game and was repeatedly beaten for pace down the wing. But he showed great character to battle through.

Chris Robertson- 6. Started shakily- failing to deal with a routine long ball into the left-hand channel- although he recovered to form part of a solid rearguard action.

Darius Charles- 8. With Robinson out, the experience of Charles shone. His ability to fully clear the ball with his head is a great asset and he had AFC’s best chance of scoring.

Sean Kelly- 6. As another player who carried an injury for much of the contest, the Scotsman worked well with Poleon to defend the left side. Improving in the air and showing more of his attacking talent are the next tasks for him to rubber-stamp his place in the team, with Meades struggling with his ankle.

Alfie Egan- 7. A big day for the 19 year-old on the occasion of his first league start and he worked hard to repay Ardley’s faith. Positional sense not quite there and drawn into a few needless fouls though.

Tom Beere- 6. A useful continuity option in the centre of midfield, particularly with his ability to deliver pretty consistently from free-kicks and corners. Could have done more to shut down Gardner, his highly creative counterpart.

Jake Reeves- 6. Didn’t have the options to switch play with particular regularity but showed intelligence in shutting off passing lanes in front of the back four.

Chris Whelpdale- 5. The winger has spent an extended spell on the sidelines due to injury and is still some way away from full sharpness. Looks a threat when he drifts infield at times.

Tyrone Barnett- 5. The ball threatened to break for the burly striker twice in the early stages and he came no closer to scoring. Tom Elliott and Lyle Taylor were much missed.

Dominic Poleon- 6. Wasn’t given the time and space to impose himself by an energetic Chesterfield side. Showed determination to stay in good areas and had a shot saved with ten minutes to play.

George Oakley- 6. Ran around gamely towards the end. When strikers are back fit, may well go back out on loan again.

George Francomb- 6. Got himself booked late on but he put in some really hard yards in front of the left-back and ensured there would be no late sting in the tail.

Dannie Bulman- n/a. Felt like he could have been brought on earlier to give the midfield a bit more punch. Came on with eight minutes to play.
