AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Hartlepool

AFC Wimbledon paid the penalty as they suffered their first league defeat of the season against Hartlepool.

Matt Tubbs, who had earlier put the hosts in front, saw his spot-kick saved by visiting keeper Scott Flinders.

And it proved costly as goals from Charlie Wyke and Marlon Harewood gave Hartlepool the three points.

It had all started well for Neal Ardley's side with Tubbs, on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, putting them in front with his fourth goal of the campaign.

The hosts had the better of the first half and Barry Fuller nearly doubled the lead but his effort came back off the bar.

The visitors were level less than a minute into the second period when Wyke's shot from 35 yards flew into the net.

And midway through the half they were in front when Harewood found the goal after being set up by Ryan Brobbel.

With 15 minutes left, Tubbs was presented with a wonderful opportunity to equalise when he was fouled by Tommy Miller in the penalty area.

Tubbs stepped up but Flinders went the right way and managed to keep out the kick.

And despite Tubbs and Sean Rigg going close, the Dons were unable to find the equaliser.
