Bayo Akinfenwa's return to former club Northampton did not go to plan for the big striker this afternoon.

The Dons frontman got a rousing reception at a club where he scored almost 100 goals over two spells, but his current side left Sixfields empty handed.

Northampton  went ahead just after the half hour mark when former Dons striker Kaid Mohamed got his head to a fierce cross from Lawson D’Ath, leaving James Shea with no chance.

Frankie Sutherland came on for his debut after joining on loan from QPR with 25 minutes left and was at the heart of his new side's best move, picking out Dannie Bulman, who spread the ball out wide to Jack Smith, whose cross was headed wide by Akinfenwa.

Instead it was Northampton who clinched the points when substitute Alex Nicholls rifled home to make it 2-0 with the last touch of the game.
