Plymouth 1-1 AFC Wimbledon

Ade Azeez struck to snatch a point for AFC Wimbledon at Plymouth Argyle but the wait for a first away victory of 2015 goes on.

The Dons are yet to win on the road this calendar year and that statistic remains intact tonight after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Home Park.

Deji Oshilaja remarkably shook off a neck injury sustained in Saturday’s goalless draw with Oxford United to take his place in defence alongside the returning Jake Goodman.

Youngster Ryan Sweeney, named man of the match after making his full debut against the U’s at the weekend, dropped to the bench to make room for the Millwall loanee.

Craig Tanner joined him in the dugout as Neal Ardley decided the pace of Azeez would suit his plans better alongside big Bayo Akinfenwa in attack.

It was a bright start from the Dons and George Francomb was an early menace to the hosts, causing havoc down the flank, and skimming the outside of the post with a free-kick.

Shea, taking his place between the sticks for the second time since returning from a broken ankle, showed some of the rustiness that were evident during his comeback.

Gethin Jones whipped in a cross that deceived everyone, Shea included, and the Wimbledon goalkeeper was relieved to see it rebound kindly off the bar and roll to safety.

Bobby Reid also tested the Arsenal trainee before Akinfenwa saw a soft header gathered by Luke McCormick at the other end as the deadlock remained unbroken at the interval.

Ardley had some re-organising to do in the dressing room during the break and Jack Smith, who has been struggling for fitness, was replaced by striker Tanner.

Shea has been outstanding all season in the Dons goal and produced a marvelous reflex save to deny Carl McHugh shortly after the restart.

He made another incredible stop to deny Lewis Alessandra moments later but from the resulting corner Anthony O'Connor latched onto a flick-on and poked Argyle in front.

It was a lead that lasted just eight minutes though as substitute Tanner’s effort was parried by McCormick and Azeez was lurking to stroke home into the unguarded net.

Roared on by the home crowd, Plymouth responded by pouring forward and Alessandra really should have restored the Pilgrims’ advantage but his wayward shot didn’t worry the Dons.

Jake Reeves went close with a late drive for the visitors but McCormick was up to the test and pushed his effort wide to ensure there was nothing to separate the two sides.
