AFC Wimbledon earned their first win on the road since October as they beat Exeter City down in Devon.

The Dons signed off for 2015 on a high with a hard-working performance and a 2-0 victory over Paul Tisdale’s side.

Paul Robinson took his place in the heart of the defence after having his red card rescinded following Saturday’s stalemate with Bristol Rovers.

The busy festive period takes its toll on bodies and the Dons weren’t helped by playing almost the entire 90 minutes against Rovers with 10 men just a couple of days earlier.

Neal Ardley decided to inject some pace into his attack and handed Tom Elliott a start alongside Lyle Taylor up top as Adebayo Akinfenwa dropped down to the bench.

Elliott, who has been biding his time in the shadows, seized his chance and headed home the opening goal midway through the first half at St James Park.

It was 2-0 on the half hour as Wimbledon went route one. A long ball from Shea was nodded on and an onrushing Taylor lifted it over the Exeter keeper to double the advantage.

Taylor’s game was ended through injury, the one blot on the copybook for Ardley’s boys, who survived a late chance which crashed against the bar to run out deserved winners.
