Missed chances and 90 seconds of defensive madness saw AFC Wimbledon suffer a second successive home defeat against Cambridge tonight.

Dons completely overwhelmed the visiting U's in as one-sided a first half as you will ever see, but only had a solitary Tom Elliott goal to show for it.

And their hard work was undone when two headed goals from Leon Legge and Barry Corr in the first three minutes of the second half knocked the stuffing out of them.

Battle: Ade Akinfenwa (L)

First half

The first half was a game of attack against defence except there was not much defence from Cambridge.

Elliott had already seen a header controversially ruled out for offside when he fired Dons ahead on 12 minutes, his first Dons goal against his former employers.

Both he and Adebayo Akinfenwa had other efforts cleared off the line, while Elliott headed another glorious chance straight at Chris Dunn and the U's shot stopper brilliantly turned away Andy Barcham's curler.

The fears were Dons could not sustain their dominance and Cambridge could not play as badly again.

Both these were realised as Legge headed in a right wing corner seconds after the restart and the stunned hosts had not cleared their heads when in the next attack Barry Corr headed in another corner from the opposite side.

James Shea kept his side in it with a super save from Mark Roberts' header, but Karleigh Osbourne and substitute Adebayo Azeez spurned chances to salvage a point on a night of bitter disappointment for Neal Ardley's side.
